Thanks for your past support of the Southwestern Petroleum Short Course. The Short Course has now been serving the oil and gas industry for 67 years!
As you are probably aware, its mission is to make available to the petroleum industry current and practical information and technology. Generally, 40-50 papers have been presented each year on topics including artificial lift, completions, stimulation, workovers, reservoir operations, production handling, environmental, drilling, and general interest. In addition, several 1-2 day schools are held each year. Finally, multiple industry exhibitors also provide excellent learning and networking opportunities. The Short Course continues to maintain a special relationship with Texas Tech University that provides a sense of academic continuity and cultural interaction with faculty, staff, and students.
Like many industry conferences in 2020, the Short Course was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Virus. Because of this, the income shortfall of the most recent fiscal year was about $275,000.
The Board of Directors has cut variable costs this year, but the Short Course continues to have fixed costs including administrative costs, accounting, website, etc. Unfortunately, variable costs that have currently been suspended include scholarships to very deserving Texas Tech Petroleum Engineering students. Last year we donated $25,000 for these scholarships.
On behalf of the Short Course, we are requesting a special contribution to help with this very unexpected shortfall.
We are unaware of the Short Course needing to make a similar request in the past. We hope you understand and know that times are currently uncertain.
Our goal for this contribution campaign is $200,000!
This will cover most of our recent shortfall and help us continue the Short Course for many more years. As the Short Course returns to “normal operations”, we will also certainly resume funding scholarships. To donate, you can mail a check payable to the SWPSC at Box 43111, Lubbock, TX 79409-3111, or complete the online donation form below. Additionally, you can contact Ronda Brewer in the Short Course office at 806-834-7937 or email@example.com. Also, please feel free to contact any of the Fundraising Committee members below. As a reminder, the SWPSC is a 501 (c)(3) organization and donations to the Short Course are tax deductible.
We appreciate you considering this request!
Please let us know if you need any more information to help with your decision.
