Modern technologies provide operators with the ability to monitor conditions and make immediate changes to the operation of a well. Although this technology is vitally important and extremely helpful in lowering failure rates, understanding basic design and optimization techniques to improve the performance of the rod string may be the single largest factor necessary to reduce failure rates and extend runtimes in a reciprocating rod lift system. This 1 day class will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of different types of sucker rod chemistries and heat treatment to develop the various rod grades and types offered in the industry. In addition to the proper selection of rod grade, participants will be provided with valuable information designed to educate and inform production personnel concerning the recommended storage and transportation methods, running and rerunning techniques, proper connection makeup and breakout procedures, and techniques to identify failures and reduce failure rates.
