The Southwestern Petroleum Short Course is delighted to announce Dr. Smith Leggett as the newly elected Executive Director.
Dr. Leggett teaches and conducts production engineering research as an Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University.

Since joining the Bob L. Herd Department of Petroleum Engineering in July 2022, he founded the Texas Tech University Gas Lift Consortium, a joint industry project aiming to advance technolgogies for late-lift gas lifted wells.

His research on distributed fiber optic sensing for hydraulic fracture, wellbore flow and artificial lift diagnostics has been published in multiple avenues, including at the Southwestern Petroleum Short Course.

Dr. Leggett teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on nodal analysis, artificial lift and multiphase fluid flow in pipes.
Prior to his appointment at Texas Tech University, he worked as a production engineer at Oxy, consulted with PetroEdge IV and interned with the Department of Energy National Energy Technology Lab.

He earned his Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
